About this Program

The Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Filipino (BSEd-Filipino) program is designed to develop competent and culturally rooted educators who can effectively teach Filipino as both a first and second language. The program emphasizes the application of linguistic, literary, and pedagogical principles necessary for teaching Filipino in diverse educational settings. It trains future teachers to apply up-to-date strategies and methodologies that enhance students' language proficiency, appreciation of Filipino literature, and understanding of the national language's role in identity and nation-building.

The curriculum also prepares students to design and deliver instruction that is responsive to the needs of learners with varying linguistic backgrounds. Special focus is given to creating lessons that support second language learners as they transition from their first language to Filipino, especially in multi-language environments found at different levels of education. Through a blend of theory and practice, students gain meaningful classroom experience and the confidence to foster language development, critical thinking, and cultural awareness among their future learners.
