Major in English

The Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English (BSEd-English) program is designed to develop future educators who are skilled in teaching English as a second language, particularly within the multilingual and multicultural context of the Philippines. The program equips students with a strong foundation in English language structure, literature, and communication, alongside pedagogical theories and strategies that are aligned with current educational trends and standards. It emphasizes the use of up-to-date teaching methodologies to enhance learners' language proficiency, critical thinking, and communicative competence.

A key focus of the program is preparing students to design and implement lessons that are sensitive to the diverse linguistic backgrounds of second language learners. This includes creating instructional materials and activities that support the transition from a learner’s first language to English, in line with the goals of the K to 12 curriculum. Through a combination of theoretical coursework, language immersion, and hands-on teaching experiences, students gain the competence and confidence to effectively teach English in both local and international settings.
