
The University of San Jose – Recoletos (USJ-R), through its Center for Recollect Community Engagement and Social Involvement (CRCESI) in collaboration with the School of Engineering and Architecture, officially launched “Energy ni San Jose,” an innovative hybrid solar-powered energy station designed to provide reliable electricity and internet connectivity during times of disaster and emergency.
The project reflects the University's commitment to community development, disaster resilience, and environmental sustainability. Equipped with a solar panel system, the mobile energy station can serve as an emergency power source in areas affected by calamities where electricity and communication services are disrupted.
“Energy ni San Jose” features charging ports that enable community members to charge their mobile phones and other essential devices. In addition, the unit provides internet connectivity, allowing residents to access information, communicate with family members, and coordinate emergency responses during critical situations.

Designed with mobility in mind, the solar-powered unit can be deployed to communities in need during disasters. The solar panels mounted on top of the structure harness renewable energy, ensuring continuous operation even when conventional power sources are unavailable. Through this initiative, USJ-R aims to address the challenges of energy loss and communication interruptions commonly experienced during natural calamities.
While primarily intended for emergency and disaster response, the facility also serves the university community during normal operations. Currently installed at the study lounge area above the university canteen, the station provides power for ceiling fans and electrical outlets, creating a more comfortable and conducive learning environment for students.
The launch of “Energy ni San Jose” highlights CRCESI’s dedication to developing practical and sustainable solutions that benefit both the university and the wider community. By harnessing clean and renewable solar energy, the project contributes to the achievement of United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 7: Affordable and Clean Energy, which promotes universal access to reliable, sustainable, and modern energy services.
