Lay administrators from the University of San Jose–Recoletos (USJ-R) and representatives from Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology (STUST), Osaka Institute of Technology (OIT), and Saint Michael’s College of Laguna (SMCL) gathered for a meeting aimed at exploring opportunities for future international collaboration as part of International Project Based Learning (IPBL) 2026, hosted this year by the USJ-R School of Computer Studies.

The meeting served as a platform for the participating institutions to exchange ideas, share experiences, and discuss possible areas of cooperation in education, research, project-based learning, and international academic engagement.

The gathering highlighted the importance of strengthening partnerships among higher education institutions, particularly in creating opportunities for students, faculty members, and administrators to gain international exposure and participate in collaborative learning experiences.

 

Deans and representatives from various schools of the University of San Jose–Recoletos (USJ-R) convened for a strategic dialogue aimed at strengthening research initiatives and expanding student exchange opportunities with international partners.

Held in conjunction with the celebration of School of Computer Studies (SCS) Days 2026, the meeting featured Dr. Jason Shih of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology (STUST). Dr. Shih currently serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and is the Director of the AIoT and Intelligent Automation Laboratory (Smart Chip IoT Technology Lab).

Key discussions centered on expanding partnerships through student and faculty development programs, study tours, and joint research initiatives. Both institutions are currently in the exploratory phase of defining priority areas for collaboration, with initial efforts focused on aligning research interests and leveraging complementary academic strengths.

STUST and USJ-R have maintained an academic partnership since 2018 through SCS. Since then, they have undertaken several collaborative initiatives, including the International Project-Based Learning (IPBL) program as well as scholarship opportunities for qualified Josenian graduates to pursue further studies in Taiwan.

Overall, the meeting marked a significant step toward enhancing international engagement. By reinforcing collaboration in research, innovation, and student mobility, both institutions aim to cultivate more dynamic and globally competitive academic environments.
