University
Founded by the Order of Augustinian Recollects, the University of San Jose–Recoletos has been forming Cebuanos of faith, integrity, and purpose for over seven decades.
Our Story
A Legacy of Faith & Excellence
The University of San Jose–Recoletos traces its roots back to 1947 when the Augustinian Recollects established the Colegio de San Jose–Recoletos in Cebu City, Philippines. Founded with a mission to provide quality Catholic education, the institution grew steadily in academic reputation and infrastructure.
Over the years, it expanded its programs to meet the evolving needs of society while upholding the Recollect tradition of intellectual and spiritual formation. It became known for fostering academic excellence, character development, and community involvement, preparing students to become compassionate leaders and active contributors to societal progress.
In 1984, the school was granted university status and formally recognized as the University of San Jose–Recoletos. Today, it continues to cultivate a culture of holistic education, shaping generations of graduates who uphold the university's commitment to truth and service.
